Travel ban lawyer Dubai: what to do if you have, or suspect, a travel ban

If you have been stopped at the airport, or you think a case may stop you leaving the UAE, a travel ban lawyer in Dubai can find out what the ban is, who imposed it and what the realistic ways forward are. MBM advises residents, visitors, employees, company owners and their families from offices in Dubai and Sharjah. Your first consultation is free and confidential. You do not have to work this out alone: we take the legal work off your shoulders, explain each step in plain English and make sure you always know where your matter stands.

A travel ban is not one thing. It can come from a criminal complaint, a bank or cheque case, a court judgment, a labour dispute or an immigration decision, and each is dealt with by a different body and lifted in a different way. The first job is therefore always the same: establish what the ban is attached to. This page walks you through checking for a ban, understanding who imposed it, what to do at the airport, how a ban is lifted, and how MBM works.

Who we act for

  • The person affected: residents and visitors who have been told they cannot leave, or who fear a ban.
  • Family members: relatives or friends acting for someone who is abroad, detained or unable to instruct a lawyer.
  • Employees and employers: workers facing a ban after a labour dispute, and businesses dealing with a director or employee who has been restricted. See our employee rights lawyer and employment lawyer for employers pages for the employment side.
  • Company owners and directors: where a business debt or a company matter sits behind the ban.

Check a ban

How to check travel ban in Dubai and the rest of the UAE

You can find out whether you have a ban before you travel, and there is no need to learn it at passport control. There is no single place that shows every kind of ban, so the right check depends on the type of ban you suspect and the emirate it may sit in. A lawyer can make the enquiry for you and read the answer correctly, which matters because a short online result rarely explains what the ban is attached to.

Checking for a ban in Dubai

As we understand it, Dubai Police offers an online service for checking circulars and travel bans linked to financial cases in Dubai, and the UAE Government portal describes a similar check. You may be asked for your Emirates ID number or to sign in with UAE Pass. That check covers financial cases in Dubai only. It does not tell you about a criminal travel ban, a ban recorded in another emirate or a restriction from an immigration or labour matter. Services, channels and requirements change, so we confirm the current position at your first consultation.

Checking across the UAE

Because each emirate and each authority keeps its own records, a clean result in Dubai is not proof that you can leave. If you have lived, worked or signed contracts in more than one emirate, tell us, because a case in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi or another emirate would not necessarily appear in a Dubai check. People who search "how to check travel ban in UAE" or "travel ban check UAE" are often hoping for one answer; in practice it can take more than one enquiry. Enquiries can be made to the police, to the courts or Public Prosecution where you know a case exists, or through a lawyer.

Checking from outside the UAE

People search "how to check travel ban from outside UAE" because they want to know whether it is safe to return. A lawyer can often make the enquiry on your behalf without you travelling. As we understand it, a power of attorney may be needed for someone to act for you, together with your passport and residence details. See our page on power of attorney for how that works. Please do not book a flight into the UAE on the assumption that there is no ban.

Travel ban check by passport number, Emirates ID or case number

People ask whether a travel ban check works by passport number, by Emirates ID or by case number. As we understand it, different services ask for different details, and some are only available to residents. A case number helps a lot if you have one, but you do not need one to ask us to make enquiries. Send us your passport details, your visa or Emirates ID details if you have them, and everything you know about the case.

What we handle when you want to check a ban:

  • Identifying which authorities could hold a case against you.
  • Making the enquiry, in your name or under a power of attorney.
  • Explaining what the result means and what it is attached to.
  • Advising on whether to travel, and on what to do first if a ban exists.

Planning to fly and unsure whether you can? Tell us your dates and we will explain how to check first. Your first consultation is free and confidential.

Who decides

Who can impose a travel ban in the UAE

A travel ban is put in place by the authority or court that holds the underlying matter, not by one central office. As we understand it, the usual sources are a court dealing with enforcement of a judgment, Public Prosecution or the police in a criminal matter, a creditor's case that has reached a court or the authorities, a labour authority in an absconding case, and an immigration authority. The details differ and requirements change, so treat this as a general map.

Court execution and civil judgments

Where a court has given a judgment for money and the debtor has not paid, the person who won may ask the enforcement side of the court for measures, and as we understand it a travel restriction can be among them. Lifting it usually means dealing with the enforcement file: paying, agreeing a settlement the creditor records, or applying with the supporting papers. See our debt recovery lawyer page for how bans work in debt cases, and our civil litigation lawyer page for the court side.

Public Prosecution and the police

In a criminal complaint or investigation, the police or Public Prosecution may restrict travel while the matter is open. A restriction of this kind generally follows the case: it may last while the investigation continues and may be reviewed when the case is decided or closed. Our criminal lawyer in Dubai page explains how the criminal process runs.

Banks, loans and credit cards

A bank or creditor generally acts through a court case or a complaint to the authorities rather than imposing a ban itself, as we understand it. The practical result can still be a restriction on leaving. If you hold a loan, card or overdraft and have fallen behind, ask for advice before you travel. Where the bank has also frozen an account, see our bank account freeze lawyer page.

Labour disputes and absconding reports

An employer who reports that a worker has left the job without notice can set a process in motion that may restrict the worker's movements. As we understand it, the worker may be able to challenge the report with the labour authority, and the outcome depends on the facts. See our labour lawyer in Dubai page.

Immigration and administrative matters

Some restrictions come from an immigration authority, for example in connection with a visa or residence matter. The roles of the federal and emirate-level bodies can differ, so we confirm who is involved before advising.

At the airport

Stopped at the airport: what to do

If you are told at the airport that you cannot leave, stay calm, do not argue and do not try another border point. The officer is applying a record, not deciding your case, and the useful thing you can do is collect the facts that let a lawyer find the source. A travel ban at Dubai airport is more common than people expect, and many people learn of a ban only on the day of the flight.

  1. Step 01

    Ask what you can

Politely ask the officer what the restriction is connected to and whether there is a reference or case number. Write down what you are told.

  2. Step 02

    Keep your papers

Keep your boarding pass, passport stamp or any paper you are handed. Take photos of anything you are given.

  3. Step 03

Do not sign what you do not understand

If you are asked to sign a statement or undertaking, ask for a copy and for legal advice first where you can.

  4. Step 04

    Contact a lawyer

Call us or send the facts by WhatsApp. If a family member is with you, they can call for you.

  5. Step 05

    Hold your travel plans

Do not rebook non-refundable travel until you know what the ban is attached to and how long resolving it may take.

If you were turned back at Dubai airport and told you cannot leave, send us your passport details, the airport and terminal, the time, and the name of the airline. We will work out which authority is likely to hold the record and make the enquiry. Do not assume the first explanation you hear is complete, because airport staff generally see only the fact of the restriction and not the case behind it.

Do not try to leave by another route. Trying to cross a border on a different passport, from another emirate or through another country can make a difficult position worse and can create a separate problem. Get advice on the ban first.

Lift a ban

How to lift travel ban in Dubai: the routes

A ban is lifted by the authority or court that holds the matter, never automatically and never by an intermediary. The usual routes are settling or resolving the underlying matter, providing security or a guarantor where the authority accepts it, making a formal application to lift or suspend the ban, or challenging the order itself. Which one fits depends on what the ban is attached to, and we tell you the realistic position, not a promise.

Routes to lifting a travel ban by source (general guide, not a rule for your case)
Source of the banRoutes we usually look at firstWhat decides it
Criminal caseAn application to the authority or court holding the case, release on conditions, progress or conclusion of the case, and where relevant appealThe allegation, the stage reached and the authority's view
Cheque casePayment or a settlement recorded in the file, and an application to the court or authority holding itThe cheque, the file and any settlement
Court execution or debtPayment, a written settlement recorded in the file, security or a guarantor, or an application in the enforcement fileThe creditor's position and the court's decision
Bank or loan defaultA written agreement with the bank, payment or a settlement, and an application once the file allows itThe bank's position and the file
Labour or absconding reportChallenging the report with the labour authority, or resolving the disputeThe facts, the authority's decision and the employer's position
Immigration or administrativeA request to the issuing authority to review or cancel the restrictionThe authority's decision and the basis relied on

What an application to lift a ban usually involves

People often search "lift travel ban UAE" hoping for a single form to fill in. Where an application is the right route, it is normally made to the authority or court that holds the file, with a short explanation of why the ban should be lifted or suspended and the papers that support it. As we understand it, the Ministry of Justice has online services connected to travel ban requests and to requests to cancel an order, but which route applies depends on the type of ban, so we confirm the current position at your first consultation. A well-prepared application states the facts clearly, shows what has been paid or agreed, and says what condition, if any, you can accept.

Settlement, payment and security

In money cases, a ban often ends when the underlying matter is resolved. That can mean payment in full, a settlement the other side agrees in writing, or security or a personal guarantor that the court or authority accepts in the meantime. We prepare and review the settlement so that it covers the ban itself and not only the money, and we check that the file is updated afterwards. See our bounced cheque lawyer and debt recovery lawyer pages for the money side.

Appeal and challenge

Some bans can be challenged, for example where the order was made in error, the debt has been paid, or the restriction continues after the case has ended. As we understand it, challenges generally have to be made within strict time limits that run from the decision, so do not wait. For criminal judgments, see our page on a criminal appeal lawyer in Dubai.

Is a travel ban lifted automatically?

Not always. A ban linked to a case may be reviewed when the case ends, but records are not always updated at the same speed, and a ban can remain on the system after the matter is settled. If you have paid or settled, ask for written proof, then check that the restriction has been removed before you travel. A travel ban removal lawyer can follow the file and ask the authority to update the record.

What we handle when you want a ban lifted:

  • Establishing exactly what the ban is attached to.
  • Negotiating and documenting a settlement where one is possible.
  • Preparing and filing an application, or a challenge where grounds exist.
  • Following the file until the record is updated, and confirming the result in writing.
Bail and passport

Bail and passport release in outline

In a criminal matter, release pending investigation or trial is commonly called bail, and it can be linked to a travel restriction or the holding of a passport. As we understand it, conditions can include a passport hold, a financial security or a personal guarantor, depending on the allegation and the stage the matter has reached. It is a decision of the authority handling the case on the facts, not a service anyone can buy, and it is never certain.

Bail and passport release in UAE criminal cases

If your passport has been held as a condition of release, you can ask the authority or court holding the case to return it, for example for a specific journey or once the case is concluded. We prepare the request, explain what conditions the authority may attach and tell you honestly when the request is unlikely to succeed. For the wider picture on arrest and release, see our page on a bail lawyer in Dubai.

Applying to travel while on release

If you are on release and need to travel for work, medical treatment or a family reason, the safe approach is to ask in advance and obtain the answer in writing. As we understand it, the authority holding the case may sometimes allow a journey on conditions, but it may refuse, and you should never assume permission.

Do not pay for a promised release. Release and the return of a passport are decided by the authority dealing with the case, not by an agent or broker. If someone offers to arrange it for a fee, do not pay, and tell us.

Travelling

Can I travel with a case pending?

A pending complaint or case can affect your ability to leave the country, so do not assume you are able to travel. If you are asking yourself whether you can leave Dubai with a travel ban, the answer is no, and attempting it can make matters worse. If you are asking whether you can travel with a pending case in Dubai where no ban has been confirmed, the answer is that it depends on the case and the authority, which is why we check first.

Can I leave Dubai with a travel ban?

Not lawfully. Where a ban is recorded, the border system is generally expected to stop you, and trying to avoid it by another route can create a separate problem. If you must travel urgently, tell us why, because an application to suspend the ban for a stated journey may be possible in some cases, and we say honestly when it is not.

Travel ban on a person who is already abroad

If you are outside the UAE when a case begins, a ban or a complaint may be recorded without you knowing. Do not return until you have advice. If the matter is a money claim, we can often explore settlement or an application through a lawyer in the UAE, using a power of attorney where one is needed.

Visitors and tourists

If you are visiting and a matter has arisen, a restriction can affect your flight home as much as it affects a resident. Send us your passport details, your flight dates and any paper you have been given. Your embassy or consulate may be able to explain what support it offers, although it cannot act as your lawyer.

Do not confuse

Travel ban, Interpol notice and deportation: how they differ

A travel ban, an Interpol notice and a deportation order are three different things, decided by different authorities and handled in different ways. People often use the words as if they were interchangeable, which can lead to the wrong enquiry or the wrong fix.

Three different restrictions (general guide)
Travel banInterpol Red NoticeDeportation
What it isA restriction on leaving the UAEA request to police worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a personAn order to remove a non-national from the UAE
Who decidesThe court or authority holding the matter in the UAEInterpol and the country that asked for itThe authority or court that issued the order
Where it appliesMainly at UAE bordersAcross member countriesApplies to the person's presence in the UAE
Usual way forwardSettle, apply or challenge with the holding authorityA review request under Interpol's own rules, and steps in the requesting countryA challenge or reconsideration, depending on the basis

If you think you may be facing more than a travel ban, see our Interpol and deportation page and our page on a deportation lawyer in Dubai. A bank or an employer that mentions a notice is not necessarily describing a travel ban, so we start by establishing what actually exists.

Money cases

Cheque, debt and bank cases: bans that start with money

Many travel bans start with money: a cheque that was returned, a loan or credit card that was not repaid, or a judgment that was not met. The route to lifting the ban runs through the money case, so settling the claim properly is usually the centre of the work. This section covers cheque-related and debt-related bans.

Travel ban due to a bounced cheque

As we understand it, since the 2022 changes a returned cheque is generally a civil matter that can be enforced directly through the Execution Court, and criminal liability remains only in specified cases such as fraud or bad faith. The position depends on the facts, so we confirm it at your first consultation. Either way, an enforcement file or a complaint can lead to a restriction on travel, and settling the cheque properly is usually the route to having it lifted. See our bounced cheque lawyer in Dubai page. A travel ban on a cheque case in Dubai is one of the situations where early advice most often changes the options.

Travel ban for debt in UAE

If you owe money and the creditor has taken the matter to court, a judgment and an enforcement file can follow, and a restriction on leaving may be among the measures sought. Ask for advice before the file reaches that stage if you can. See our debt recovery lawyer in Dubai page.

Bank case travel ban in the UAE

What people search for as a "bank case travel ban UAE" usually comes from an unpaid loan, card or overdraft that has been taken to a court or the authorities. A written agreement with the bank, recorded properly in the file, is often the practical route to having the restriction lifted. Our banking and finance lawyer page covers the bank side.

Company debts and directors

Where the debt belongs to a company, personal exposure of a director or signatory depends on how the debt arose and what they signed, so we look at the documents. Where the company is being closed, see our company liquidation lawyer page.

Have a cheque, loan or bank case behind your travel ban? Send us the papers and we will tell you the realistic route. Your first consultation is free and confidential.

Labour

Employees and employers: labour cases and absconding reports

A labour dispute can lead to a ban when an employer reports that a worker has left the job. People in that position often search "labour case travel ban UAE". As we understand it, the worker may be able to challenge the report, and the outcome depends on the facts. An absconding travel ban in the UAE is one of the most common reasons people are surprised at the airport, because it can be recorded without the worker knowing.

If you are an employee

Tell us when and how you left the job, what you were owed, whether you gave notice and what the employer has said. We look at whether the report was valid and which authority should be asked to review it. See our employee rights lawyer page.

If you are an employer

An employer should be sure that a report is accurate before it is made, because an unfounded report can lead to a challenge. We advise businesses on the correct steps. See our employment lawyer for employers page.

How it works

What to expect, step by step

Every travel ban matter starts with a conversation and ends with a confirmed result in writing. This is a map, not a prediction, because the path depends on the authority and the type of ban.

  1. Step 01

    Tell us what happened

You tell us what you know, even if it is incomplete: an airport stop, a rumour from a bank, a letter from a court.

  2. Step 02

    We establish the facts

We identify what the ban is attached to, which authority holds it and what stage the matter has reached.

  3. Step 03

    We explain the options

We tell you the realistic routes, what each requires, and where the case is weak.

  4. Step 04

    Written scope and fee

If you instruct us, we give you a written scope and fee before paid work starts.

  5. Step 05

    Action

We settle, negotiate, apply or challenge, whichever fits. Where bail or a passport is involved, we put the request to the authority.

  6. Step 06

    Confirmation

We follow the file until the restriction is removed or the position is clear, and we tell you in writing what happened.

How long does it take to lift a travel ban?

There is no standard timeline. A simple matter where the other side agrees and the file is clear can move quickly. A contested debt, a criminal case that has to run its course or a ban that has been recorded wrongly can take much longer. Delays often come from missing papers, the other side's response and the time an authority takes to update its records. We tell you what we think is realistic once we have seen the file, and we never promise that a ban will be lifted or give a fixed date.

Avoid these

Common mistakes to avoid

Stress and rumour lead to avoidable errors, and these are the most common ones described to us.

  • Going to the airport to find out. A refused departure can disrupt travel, work and family plans. Check first.
  • Relying on a single check. A clear result in one place does not prove there is no ban elsewhere.
  • Paying a middleman. A ban is lifted by the authority or court that holds the matter. Do not hand over money for a promised result.
  • Settling without documenting it. A payment with no written settlement and no application to update the file may leave the ban in place.
  • Waiting for the ban to expire. Some bans do not end by themselves, and time limits for challenges can be short.
  • Assuming the case is over because you paid. Ask for written proof, then check that the restriction has actually been removed.
  • Trying another route out. It can create a separate problem.
  • Ignoring a summons or a call from the police. A restriction can follow a missed appearance.
Before you call

What to have to hand

If the matter is urgent, call first and gather documents afterwards. If you are acting for someone abroad or unable to instruct us, whatever you know is useful, even if it is incomplete.

  • Passport and Emirates ID or visa detailsOf the person affected, with the expiry dates if you have them.
  • Any case, file or reference numberFrom the police, Public Prosecution, a court or the labour authority.
  • Judgments, orders, summonses and complaintsOr a description of what you were told, if you have not seen the paper.
  • Flight and travel detailsDates, airports and any ticket you have already bought.
  • Cheques, loan and credit card papersIf money is involved, including statements and demand letters.
  • Settlement or payment evidenceAny agreement, receipt or bank transfer already made.
  • Employment papersContract, notice, final settlement and messages with the employer, if a labour matter is involved.

Why MBM

Why MBM for a travel ban

A travel ban affects work, family and plans, and the people who contact us are often under time pressure. We organise our work around finding out the source quickly, explaining it plainly and acting on the right route.

Rated 4.9 on Google reviews. MBM is a founder-led team, led by Mohamed Badr with 17 years of legal experience, with litigation and arbitration handled by the same team and offices in Dubai and Sharjah. For travel bans that means a confidential first call, a plain explanation of what the ban is attached to and a written scope and fee before paid work starts. MBM works with group companies in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and the Gulf, which helps when a matter has an international side. That matters when a person is abroad, a debt crosses borders or a family is spread across countries. Our lawyers and legal consultants are experts in UAE criminal and enforcement procedure, with a high success rate in the matters we handle; no outcome is promised in any individual case.

One team from first call to confirmation

You deal with the same team from the first enquiry to the written confirmation that the matter has been dealt with, so you do not have to repeat your story.

Families can instruct us

Many people looking for a "lawyer for travel ban in Dubai" are acting for a relative who is abroad. We can act on a family member's instructions where the person affected cannot instruct us directly, and we explain the position to the person concerned as soon as we can.

Litigation and arbitration handled by the same team

MBM handles litigation and arbitration as one team, which matters when the ban sits on top of a civil or commercial dispute. See our civil lawyer page.

No promises on outcome

No responsible firm can promise that a ban will be lifted, a passport returned or a case closed. We tell you the realistic position, including where the case is weak, before you commit.

Where we are

Dubai, Sharjah and the rest of the UAE

MBM has offices in Dubai Media City and in Sharjah (Al Khalidiya), and we advise on travel bans across the UAE. Whether you searched for a "travel ban lawyer UAE" or a lawyer in Dubai only, tell us at the first consultation if the case sits in another emirate. If you searched for a "travel ban lawyer near me", you can meet us at either office, speak by phone or send documents by WhatsApp, and family members abroad can instruct us without travelling. For the wider picture, see our page on a criminal law firm in Dubai.

Fees

How fees work

Your first consultation with MBM is free and confidential. If you decide to instruct us, we give you a written scope and a fee before any paid work starts, so you know exactly what is covered. Court fees, translation costs, security amounts and other third-party charges depend on the matter and are separate from legal fees, and we explain which are likely to apply.

Because every ban is different, we do not publish a price list. If you are comparing travel ban lawyers in Dubai, ask each one for the scope and fee in writing before you instruct anyone. Ask us at your first consultation and we will answer directly. If a family member is paying on behalf of someone who is abroad or detained, say so on the first call.

Common questions

Travel ban questions answered

General information, not advice on your matter. Procedures and requirements change and depend on your facts, so please contact MBM directly to discuss yours.

How do I check if I have a travel ban in Dubai?

There is no single place that shows every kind of ban. As we understand it, Dubai Police offers an online check for financial cases in Dubai, but that check does not cover criminal, labour or immigration restrictions. A travel ban lawyer in Dubai can make the enquiry for you and explain what it means, including under a power of attorney if you are abroad. We confirm the current position at your first consultation.

How to check travel ban in UAE if I have lived in more than one emirate?

Do not rely on one result. Each authority keeps its own records, so a clean check in Dubai does not prove that nothing is recorded in another emirate. Tell us where you have lived, worked or signed contracts and we will work out which enquiries to make.

Can I check a travel ban from outside UAE?

Often a lawyer can make the enquiry on your behalf without you travelling. As we understand it, a power of attorney may be needed, together with your passport and residence details. Please do not book a flight to the UAE on the assumption that there is no ban.

Does a travel ban check by passport number work?

It depends on the service. Different checks ask for different details, and some are limited to residents. You do not need a case number to ask us to make enquiries, but any reference you have will help. Send us your passport and Emirates ID or visa details and everything you know.

Who can put a travel ban on you in the UAE?

As we understand it, the usual sources are a court enforcing a judgment, Public Prosecution or the police in a criminal matter, a creditor's case that has reached a court or the authorities, a labour authority in an absconding case, and an immigration authority. The authority holding the matter decides, which is why the first step is to establish the source.

Can a bank put a travel ban on me for an unpaid loan or credit card?

A bank generally acts through a court case or a complaint to the authorities rather than imposing a ban itself, as we understand it, but the practical effect can be a restriction on leaving. If you have fallen behind, get advice before you travel. A written agreement with the bank, properly recorded, is often the practical route to lifting it.

Can a bounced cheque cause a travel ban?

It can. As we understand it, since the 2022 changes a returned cheque is generally a civil matter that can be enforced directly through the Execution Court, and criminal liability remains only in specified cases such as fraud or bad faith. The position depends on the facts, so we confirm it at your first consultation. Either an enforcement file or a complaint can lead to a restriction on travel. See our bounced cheque lawyer page.

What should I do if I am stopped at the airport?

Stay calm, do not argue and do not try another route. Ask what the restriction is connected to, write down what you are told, keep every paper you are given, and contact a lawyer. Do not sign anything you do not understand. Send us your passport details, the airport, the time and your airline so we can identify the source.

People ask "how to lift travel ban in UAE cases". What are the routes?

A ban is lifted by the authority or court that holds the matter. The usual routes are settling or resolving the underlying matter, providing security or a guarantor where accepted, making an application, or challenging the order. Which one fits depends on what the ban is attached to. We cannot promise that a ban will be lifted.

How long does it take to lift a travel ban?

There is no standard timeline. A simple matter where the other side agrees and the file is clear can move quickly, while a contested debt or a criminal case that has to run its course can take much longer. We tell you what we think is realistic once we have seen the file, and we never promise a date.

Is a travel ban lifted automatically after I pay or settle?

Not always. A ban linked to a case may be reviewed when the case ends, but records are not always updated at the same speed. Ask for written proof of payment or settlement, then check that the restriction has actually been removed before you travel. We can follow the file and ask the authority to update the record.

Can I appeal a travel ban in the UAE?

Some bans can be challenged, for example where an order was made in error or continues after the matter has ended. As we understand it, challenges generally have to be made within strict time limits that run from the decision, so do not wait. We read the order and tell you whether grounds exist.

Can I travel with a pending case in Dubai?

A pending complaint or case can affect your ability to leave, so do not assume you can travel. It depends on the case and the authority, which is why we check first. Tell us your planned travel dates at the first consultation and we will say what the position is.

Can I leave Dubai with a travel ban?

Not lawfully. Where a ban is recorded, the border system is generally expected to stop you. If you must travel urgently, tell us why, because an application to suspend the ban for a stated journey may be possible in some cases, although it may be refused.

How does bail and passport release work in the UAE?

Release pending investigation or trial can be available in some criminal matters, and as we understand it conditions can include a passport hold, a financial security or a personal guarantor. A request to have a passport returned is made to the authority or court holding the case. It is decided on the facts and is never certain.

What is the difference between a travel ban and an Interpol Red Notice?

A travel ban restricts leaving the UAE and is imposed by the court or authority holding the matter here. A Red Notice is a request to police worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person, and it is decided by Interpol and the country that asked for it. See our bail, Interpol and deportation page.

Can an employer cause a travel ban by reporting me as absconding?

An absconding report can set a process in motion that may restrict a worker's movements, as we understand it. The worker may be able to challenge the report with the labour authority, and the outcome depends on the facts, so tell us when and how you left the job.

Can my family act for me if I am abroad or detained?

Yes. We can take instructions from a family member and explain the position to you as soon as we can. Where a formal step is needed, such as an enquiry or an application under a power of attorney, we tell the family what is required.

What documents do I need for a travel ban consultation?

Passport and Emirates ID or visa details, any case or reference number, any judgment, order or complaint, your flight dates, and any cheque, loan or settlement papers. If you have none of these, call anyway, because we can start from what you know.
